Do you want to know how to look prettier? Some people are born with natural beauty, but the rest of us have to work at it. As you’ll see in this article, there are strategies that can help anyone look more attractive. And these strategies don’t just apply to wearing makeup or dressing up for a night out on the town. They also include things like staying positive and cultivating healthy habits.
How to Look Prettier
1. Take Good Care of Your Skin
Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it reflects how healthy you are on the inside. To make sure your skin is looking radiant, you should ensure you are following a good skincare routine. A good skincare routine will include:
- Cleanser
- Toner
- Serum
- Eye Cream
- Moisturiser
- Sunscreen
- Exfoliator
Each step of the routine is important. Once you’ve established a regular routine you will notice your skin will be glowing and look healthier and more radiant.
The products that you apply to your skin should, in general, be applied from the thinnest to the thickest. So you would start with the thinnest in consistency, which is usually a toner and work up towards the thickest, which is usually a mositurizer.
Lets look at these steps in a little more detail.
Cleansers
Firstly, in order to have clear skin it’s important that you’re cleansing your skin properly, twice a day. This is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. In the past when readers have contacted me to ask for tips on how to improve their acne, it is often the case that they are not cleansing their skin properly.
In a Korean skincare routine you would use two cleansers: a water based and an oil based cleanser. This ensures you remove all oil based impurities such as excess sebum, and leftover skincare products, as well as water based impurities like dirt and water.
A good cleanser will clean your skin without drying it out or leaving it feeling tight and uncomfortable. It also won’t leave skin feeling greasy or oily after you wash it off.
Check out the posts below to help you find the right face wash for your own skin type.

Toners
Once you’ve finished cleansing, you should tone your skin. Toner will remove any remaining traces of cleanser and it helps prepare the skin for moisturising.
A good toner may also help to target specific skin concerns such as dark spots or uneven skin tone. Toner is an important step for achieving beautiful skin as it prepares the skin to better absorb the products that follow.
There are many different toners available on the market for different skin types such as oily skin or acne prone skin. You can also get toners which contain chemical exfoliants to help remove dead skin cells. Check out the posts below to help you find the right toner.

Serums
After cleansing and toning you should apply a serum. Serums have a higher concentration of active ingredients than a lotion or cream. They are arguably one of the most important steps in any skincare routine and should not be missed.
You should choose a serum designed for your skin type, or to target a specific skin care concern you want to address. You also may wish to alternate which serums you use at night and which you use during the day.
For example I like to use a vitamin c serum during the day since it helps protect my skin from environmental stressors and leave it feeling bright, but I use a different, serum at night.

Moisturizers
A good moisturiser will be lightweight, easy to apply and work well under makeup. It should help your skin feel soft and it should not be too greasy.
Moisturisers usually target specific skin care issues such as preventing acne or reducing signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles, or uneven pigmentation.
You may wish to use a heavier cream at night time and a lighter one during the day. Choose a night cream with plenty of hydrating and moisturising ingredients so you wake up looking fresh and healthy.

Eye Creams
Whether or not you apply your eye cream before your moisturizer will depend on how thick the cream is. You can buy eye creams to target various different concerns including dark circles, the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and bags.
Since the skin around our eyes is thinner and more delicate than the skin on the rest of our face, it should be treated with extra care. It’s also a good idea to invest in an eye cream that contains sun protection since most sun damage on the face appears in this area.
Sunscreens
Protecting your skin from the sun is essential as we all know how harmful unprotected exposure to UV rays can be. You should look for a sunscreen that offers both UVA and UVB protection which has a SPF of at least 30 or higher.
You should use sunscreen all year round, not only in the summer. This will protect your skin from premature ageing and skin cancer. This important step is often missed during the winter months, however your skin can be burnt or damaged by the sun all year round.
Exfoliants
There are two types of exfoliator: physical and chemical. You should aim to exfoliate your skin once a week to help remove dead skin cells and keep the skin looking healthy and bright.
Exfoliating also helps your products penetrate more effectively into the skin, and prevents the skin from becoming congested. A good exfoliator may also brighten your complexion, promote cell renewal and stimulate collagen production.
How often you use an exfoliant in your skin care routine will depend on your skin type. If you want to achieve clear, smooth skin, try to use an exfoliant regularly. I prefer chemical exfoliants to physical ones. The post below may help you to decide between using either salicylic or glycolic acid.
Sheet Masks
One optional, additional step in a skincare routine is using a sheet mask. After you apply your serum and moisturiser, you should apply a sheet mask. Sheet masks are saturated with active ingredients that target specific skin care concerns.
They usually need to be left on for 10 – 20 minutes then removed and disposed of. You can also leave the excess serum on your face after removing the sheet mask for better absorption.
I like using sheet masks which contain hyaluronic acid as they help to plump up dehydrated and dry skin. If you want to look prettier and achieve a more natural look, using sheet masks regularly can help.
There are many different types of sheet mask available for different skin types. If you have acne prone skin the following post will help you find the best mask to combat blemishes and achieve beautiful skin.
Treating Specific Skin Concerns
If you have specific skin concerns such as acne, rosacea or eczema, you may want to create a specific routine to target only this skin concern.
There are creams available that help to reduce redness and inflammation, or minimise the appearance of visible blood vessels.
If you have specific skin concerns you want to treat, the following posts will help you discover the right beauty products for you.

2. Keep Your Hair Healthy
Your hair is one of the first things people notice when they look at you. Having healthy hair can make you appear prettier and more attractive. If your hair is dry, frazzled or damaged however, this can effect your overall appearance.
The best way to achieve super-shiny hair with enviable volume is to take proper care of it! Use the following tips to keep your hair healthy and nourished:
Sleep on a Silk Pillowcase
Sleeping with a silk pillowcase or sleeping cap is an easy way to protect your hair at night. Silk pillow cases help to keep the hair moisturised, and reduce frizz and bad hair days.
They help to limit the amount of friction on the hair at night and prevent dryness, damage and split ends. They also leave you with glossy, shiny and smooth locks in the morning.
Get Regular Hair Cuts
If you notice you have split ends, get them cut before they become worse. Split ends can ruin how your hair looks, leaving it rough and dry. Getting your hair cut regularly can also make it look thicker and healthier, and beautiful faces are often shaped by a great hair cut!
Use Oil in Your Hair
You can use certain oils to keep your hair looking shiny and healthy. These include coconut oil, almond, grape seed or olive oil. You could apply a small amount of oil after you wash your hair, focusing on the ends of your hair where most damage occurs. Alternatively you could use the oil as a pre poo treatment.
The posts below will help you select the best oil for your own hair.
Always Use a Heat Protectant
Always use a heat protectant when you use hot appliances like straighteners or curling tongs. If you don’t, your hair could become weak and damaged. Hair that’s become fragile from too much heat styling is more likely to look dry and frizzy.
If you can avoid using heat on your hair altogether this would be the best option. If you like to straighten or curl your hair however, the most important thing is to get a good heat protectant. Check out my review of the Revlon Uniq One heat protection spray in the post below.
Use a Dry Shampoo Rather than Washing it too Frequently
Washing your hair too frequently can leave it dry and stripped of its natural oils. Using a dry shampoo is a great way to remove oil from your hair without having to wash it every time.
The best thing about dry shampoo is it’s quick and easy to use! It helps to bring life to flat hair and add volume at the same time! If you don’t have much time in the mornings, using a good dry shampoo can help liven up your hair, without the need to wash and style it every day.
Use Hair Masks Regularly
You should use hair masks at least once a week to keep your scalp and hair nourished. Masks can help to keep the hair shiny and prevent breakage and split ends.
Investing in a good hair mask is one of the best tips to keep your hair hydrated and smooth. Well hydrated hair is less likely to become frizzy, and more likely to look beautiful and silky.
Use Essential Oils on the Scalp
Essential oils such as peppermint, spearmint, rosemary or lavender can help to stimulate blood flow in the scalp and promote hair growth. Adding a few drops of essential oil to your hair mask or hair oil can help you to grow longer, thicker hair.
Final Thoughts on Hair Care
How well somebody takes care of their hair is a good indicator on how much they value their appearance. Healthy and thick hair can make or break somebody’s overall look.
If you want to look your best, remember that how you treat your hair will directly affect how good it looks. By regularly using hair masks, having regular haircuts and taking care of your hair at night, you will achieve better looking locks.
The post below will give you more tips on how to grow thick, long and healthy hair.
3. Look After Your Teeth
Having white, clean and straight teeth is important for looking your best. If you have yellow, crooked or stained teeth this can make you look unattractive and unappealing to others.
If you want to achieve great oral hygiene all year round here are some great tips on how to keep your teeth looking their best:
Visit the Dentist Regularly
Visiting a dentist regularly for cleanings and checkups is important in order to keep your teeth healthy. Your dentist will be able to spot any small problems before they become worse, and how you can prevent them from occurring. If you have been neglecting your teeth it’s likely they may take more time to fix, so regular visits are important.
Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day
Using an electric toothbrush is highly recommended as it will help you to clean your teeth better then with just a manual brush. You can also try using a fluoride toothpaste with whitening properties, which will help lighten the color of your teeth.
Using a good toothpaste is essential for achieving white teeth, so make sure you pick one with extra whitening abilities! Having white, healthy looking teeth is important if you want to look prettier.
Interdental Cleaning
Using floss or interdental brushes is a great way to clean in between your teeth, to target areas which can be missed when brushing. The food particles that get stuck in between your teeth can lead to damage and decay, so getting into a good habit of flossing your teeth regularly is highly recommended.
Cut Back on Sugar
Cutting back on sugar can make a big difference to your pearly whites. Avoid sugary snacks throughout the day, as they can increase the likelihood of tooth decay and yellowing.
4. Keep Your Lips Healthy
To keep your lips looking healthy you should regularly exfoliate any dry skin, and apply lip balm on a daily basis. This will keep the lips moisturised and protected and less likely to become dry or chapped.
Try to keep a lip balm with you in your hand bag so you can reapply in throughout the day, and use a lip scrub at least once a week.
If you have been neglecting your lips this will take more time to fix, so invest in a good lip mask to keep your lips hydrated and help to repair any cracked or broken skin.
The posts below will help you make your own lip scrub at home, and choose a good Korean lip care product.
5. Remove Body Hair
If you’re looking for ways you can be prettier and more attractive, shaving off your body hair is a must if you want to look good in your summer dresses.
Using a good razor and shaving foam will leave you with silky smooth legs. Make sure you have chosen a good shaving foam that won’t cause skin irritation, and always moisturise the skin after shaving.
Using an epilator is more time consuming than shaving, but will get rid of stubborn hair that shavers may struggle with. Use this option if you have ingrown hairs that a razor won’t remove.
If you live in the United Kingdom, I have a special discount for my readers to get a subscription to a monthly shaving box with FFS Beauty. Click here to find out more.
6. Experiment with Fake Tan
If you’re wanting to add a summer glow to your skin, fake tan is an easy way to do this. Added a few tanning drops to your moisturiser can help you to wake up with a fresh, glowing complexion.
You may also wish to try a body lotion which contains fake tan. It’s a safer way to achieve tanned skin without the risk of sun damage.
When you try out a fake tan make sure you use a tanning mitt and always test the product out first on a small patch of your skin.
I have found fake tan is a great way to look prettier over night. You may have to experiment though to find the right tanning product for you.
7. Eat Healthy Meals
If you want to look prettier it’s important that you look after your health, which includes a healthy diet. Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables helps to keep your body in good health and keeps you looking radiant.
A healthy diet not only gives you healthy skin and hair, but also helps to support your immune system and make it less likely that you’ll catch winter colds.
Try to cut back on processed food. Pre-packed foods are often full of sugars and additives which aren’t good for your skin.
Also, eat plenty of lean meat, fish and chicken to get the right amount of protein in your diet to help you grow thick, healthy hair. Fats should also be controlled but can be found naturally in oils and nuts.
Bananas are a great source of vitamin C which is good for your skin, and green tea can help to keep your skin hydrated.
The Japanese have one of the healthiest diets in the world. Check out the post below for tips on using the Japanese diet to get beautiful skin, hair and nails!
8. Drink Plenty of Water
Drinking plenty of water is a good way to improve how your skin looks. If you’re dehydrated it can lead to dry, dull skin. Try to drink around 2 litres of water a day to keep your body looking radiant.
A good water intake also keeps you hydrated and provides moisture for the outer layers of your skin. This keeps it looking plump and healthy. If you don’t have enough water, your skin can become shrivelled and wrinkled.
Having a glass of water before you go to bed each night is a good tip to clear your complexion overnight. If you don’t drink much water throughout the day it can show in the skin and acne will take longer to clear up.
I can’t emphasise enough how much drinking more water has improved my skin and lifestyle. If you want how to look prettier, try drinking a few extra glasses of water. It’s also easy and free!
9. Get Your Beauty Sleep
If you don’t get enough good quality sleep every night you could wake up feeling tired and drained. Lack of sleep effects the quality of your skin, and leaves you with dark circles and bags under your eyes.
Getting around 8 hours of good sleep a night will help you recover from a long day and leave you looking refreshed and more beautiful in the morning.
Make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet and comfortable and try to go to bed at the same time every night. Also, have a relaxing night time routine to help you get ready for bed.
To help you sleep better, avoid caffeine before bed and also eat low sugar foods during the day. Exercise is also a great way to get better quality sleep, so if want more beauty sleep, try hitting the gym.
10. Exercise Regularly
There are many ways how to look prettier, but exercise is one of the most effective. Getting your body moving regularly can not only help you lose weight, tone your muscles and boost how much energy you have – it will also make you look more radiant too.
One of the biggest benefits to increasing physical activity is that it reduces stress and anxiety. Keeping your mind happy and healthy also helps to keep you looking glowing and fresh.
Exercising regularly can also boost how much energy you have through the day giving you more time to get things done. It makes your body shape more attractive and helps you to become healthier and happier.
11. Get the Right Makeup Look
One of the quickest ways how to look prettier is with a well applied makeup look. An amazing makeup look can enhance your natural beauty and make you look radiant and healthy in an instant.
There are many different styles of makeup, from the classic ‘natural’ look to a more dramatic evening style. A good makeup routine will help you feel more confident and look more attractive.
Try wearing a red lipstick once in a while or using highlighting effects to enhance your cheek bones. A healthy glow can be created by using a blusher with a slightly pink tint, or a good foundation. To get the ‘glow from within’ look, try sweeping a pink or peach tone across your cheek bones.
To find the best makeup look for you it might be a good idea to get some recommendations from your best friend on what style suits you. For additional ideas check out the makeup tips below.
12. Keep Your Nails Healthy
Your nails are a good indicator of how healthy your body is. Healthy looking nails have a natural pink colour, whereas unhealthy nails can have an off white or yellow tint which shows that something isn’t right.
Having a nail routine that takes care of your nails is important. Make sure you use a good cuticle cream or oil to prevent the skin around the nails becoming dry and flaky. Also, cut and file your nails regularly.
Using a hand cream every day is also a great way to keep your nails hydrated and healthy looking. It also helps the skin on your hands too, and prevents dryness!
Having a healthy diet is also good for your nails as it gives them the nutrients they need to grow strong and look attractive.
Check out the post below to help you find the best cuticle oil and prevent your nails from becoming yellow!
13. Develop a Confident Mindset
When you feel more confident this is reflected in your body language and your posture. Having a good posture and pretty smile are simple and easy ways to look prettier immediately.
Developing a confident mindset however may not be easy. Try taking up daily meditation, and reading books about how to develop more confidence. This will help you to become your best self.
Attractive people are usually happier people who are more confident in their abilities. Try to spend time with people who are confident and have a good sense of self-esteem, as they will help you learn from them.
A confident mindset is all about how you see yourself, so try not to focus on your mistakes or the things that could be improved, but learn from your past experiences and be proud of who you are.
Don’t compare yourself to others as this can lead to a lack of self-confidence and have a negative impact on your self-esteem. Every person is different and each person’s qualities should be appreciated for what they are.
Developing a confident mindset will make you more attractive to those around you too! It will help you find the best version of yourself to show in your every day life, and on social media.
