Eucalyptus essential oil has been around for thousands of years and has a myriad of benefits. It is used in aromatherapy as well as to reduce the symptoms of colds and relieve muscle and joint pain. There are also many uses for Eucalyptus Globulus leaf oil in skin care. Chinese, Indian Ayurvedic, Greek, and European medicine have used eucalyptus oil for thousands of years.
Is Eucalyptus Oil Good For Skin?
Eucalyptus oil is an excellent ingredient in skin care. In order to prepare eucalyptus to be used on the skin the leaves of the Globulus tree are steam distilled which produces a transparent oil. The oil then needs to be diluted in a carrier oil before it can be applied to the skin. Good carrier oils include almond, apricot kernel or avocado oil. It can also be mixed with a lotion.
The benefits of Eucalyptus Globulus leaf oil in skin care include:
- Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties
- Removes impurities from the pores, making it an excellent skin cleanser
- Moisturises the skin leaving it looking healthy and hydrated
- Acts as an antioxidant and protects the skin from the environment
Using Eucalyptus Oil as a Skin Cleanser
My favourite use of Eucalyptus Globulus leaf oil in skin care is as a cleanser. The oil has a strong refreshing smell which helps to clear the mind and enhance relaxation. It is also is extremely purifying and cleansing, and is able to reduce or eliminate harmful bacteria and infections.
It is possible to create your own oil cleanser with eucalyptus oil however Liz Earle already make a brilliant eucalyptus oil cleanser. Their cleanser is not only infused with eucalyptus but also with rosemary, chamomile and hops extracts. The Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser has become their best selling product and won multiple awards. In fact it is the most awarded cleanser in the UK! It is a rich cream which deeply cleanses the skin leaving it balanced and exceptionally clean.
I have been using the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser for six months and it has become one of my favourite cleansers.
