Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum: The Ingredients

The Viola Vitamin C Serum ingredients include two forms of Vitamin C: sodium ascorbyl phosphate and ascorbyl glucoside. These forms of vitamin C are less potent than the more commonly used form, ascorbic acid but they are more stable. They ultimately convert into ascorbic acid once they are in the skin but this conversion process makes them less effective. Having said that they are less likely to cause irritation than ascorbic acid and are a good option for people with sensitive skin.

Personally I prefer using the more potent form of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) as you see the brightening effect of the product overnight. In the past I have written about my favourite vitamin C serums, the Beauty Pie Superactive Capsules and Indeed Labs Vitamin C24 both of which contain ascorbic acid. These products not only contain the more potent form of Vitamin C but also both contain a much higher amount compared with the Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum.

You can usually get a rough idea of the percentage of an ingredient that is in a product by the place it appears on the ingredients list. Ingredients lists are usually in the order of the highest percentage first. In both the Beauty Pie Vitamin C capsules and the Indeed Labs C24, ascorbic acid appears second in the ingredients list, indicating they both contain a high percentage. In the Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum however the two forms of Vitamin C used appear in seventh and tenth place, indicating there is not a high percentage of Vitamin C in this product compared with its other ingredients.

This may be beneficial to you depending on what you want to get from your Vitamin C serum and what your skin type is. If you have particularly sensitive skin then you may prefer the Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum to other vitamin C products since by having less vitamin C and using a less potent form, it is more gentle on the skin. I expect this is the reason why the product has such high reviews on Amazon, because it would be suitable for all skin types.

Another noticeable factor with the forms of Vitamin C used in the Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum is the smell (or lack of)! Products which contain high amounts of the more potent form of Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, will smell very strongly of iron. This is a smell that I notice in almost all of my Vitamin C products, since I am a fan of the more potent form. The Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum on the other hand has no scent at all. It is therefore a good option for those who not only want a more gentle vitamin C product, but who also don’t like skincare products with a strong smell!

Another a good ingredient in the Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum is Vitamin E which appeared eighth in the ingredients list. Vitamin E enhances the effectiveness of Vitamin C, and a good Vitamin C product will always contain both. I was pleased therefore to see that the Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum also contains this important anti-oxidant ingredient.

When I looked closely at the main ingredients in the Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum I saw it mostly contains glycerin and witch hazel. Glycerin re-hydrates the skin and witch hazel enhances the appearance of the skin and restores suppleness. I could definitely see the effect of these ingredients when I used the product. After only a few days of use I could see that my skin was bouncier and looked more hydrated.

Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum: Experience

The product has a lovely texture which feels like a watery gel. It absorbs easily and quickly into the skin and does not leave any greasy film. It worked well under any moisturiser and also under make up.

I have been using this product for several weeks now both morning and night and can see it has gradually had a brightening effect on my skin, evening out my skin tone. It also had hydrating effects that I could see almost overnight.

Viola Skin Vitamin C Serum: Overall Verdict

My overall opinion of this product is that it’s a great affordable serum that would suit any skin type. If you are looking for a more gentle vitamin C product then this would be ideal. Since it is less effective than more potent vitamin C products you would need to use this for a longer period however to achieve the same results. Having no scent, it is also great for people who don’t like their skincare products to have a strong smell.
