Are You Looking for an Eye Cream with SPF in the UK? They do Exist!
It’s always important to protect your skin from the sun but the skin around your eyes is especially vulnerable. Many people don’t realise that 10% of skin cancers occur in this area. This is because the skin around the eyes is ten times thinner than the rest of your body making it more likely to get damaged by UV rays. Luckily there is an excellent range of eye creams with SPF available in the UK.
If Your Moisturiser Already Has SPF do you Need an Eye Cream with SPF too?
Yes. The first signs of ageing show up on the skin around your eyes since this area is thinner and less resilient. Eye creams with SPF are specifically formulated to give this area of your face more protection from UV light. Research has found that people often miss the eyelids and eye area when applying SPF. This may be because regular sunscreen can sting the eyes. Eye creams with SPF are designed for this area and will not sting your eyes or cause redness.
Which is the Best Eye Cream with SPF?
Below are three excellent eye creams all with broad spectrum SPF protection (against both UVA and UVB rays). All of the sunscreens I have recommended are at least SPF 20 or above.
1. Ureadin Isdin Eye Gel-cream with SPF 20
After being featured in the Best Budget Anti Wrinkle Eye Creams in the UK, the Ureadin Isdin Eye Gel-cream became a best seller on UK Beauty Room. It is a light weight, non greasy eye cream which absorbs well into the skin and provides protection against UV rays.
As well as being a sunscreen, the ISDIN eye cream also targets bags, dark circles and fine lines. It has a gel like consistency and is suitable for all skin types. It contains co-enzyme Q10 and Vitamin E as well as both UVA and UVB SPF 20 filters.
2. Fade Out Brightening Eye Defence Cream with SPF 25
The Fade Out Brightening Eye Defence Cream contains Hyaluronic Acid, to hydrate the skin and Niacinamide (check out my post on 7 Reasons Why You Need Niacinamide in Your Skincare Routine). It has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of dark circles in just four weeks. It also contains a peptide called Haloxyl which helps to illuminate and strengthen the under-eye area.
With a SPF of 25 this eye cream has a higher SPF factor than the Ureadin Isdin Eye Gel-cream (SPF20). It is not only effective at protecting against UVA and UVB but also lightens dark circles and reduces puffiness.
3. Ultrasun Sun Protection Eye SPF 30
This eye cream is one of my personal favourites. It has a SPF of 30, protecting against both UVA and UVB, as well as a water resistant formula. It is also suitable for contact lens wearers.
The Ultrasun eye cream helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles and provides up to eight hours protection against UV rays. It is suitable for all skin types, free from oils, emulsifiers and perfumes and can be used for up to two years after opening.

FAQs on Caring for the Skin Around Your Eyes
Is SPF 30 or SPF 50 better?
SPF 30 allows about 3% of UVB rays through to your skin whereas SPF 50 allows about 2%. There is only a small difference and this may create a false sense of security that products with higher SPF are providing more protection than they actually are.

How can I protect my eyes from sun?
As well as wearing SPF around your eyes you should wear sun glasses that block UVA and UVB rays, and a sun hat with a three-inch brim and tightly woven fabric.
