The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is a Japanese sunscreen which has become a best seller on Amazon. It has a very light and watery texture which is not sticky. It absorbs quickly leaving no white marks and is ideal for all skin types. I used the product all last summer and found it is perfect under makeup and very different from any other SPF products I’ve tried in that it has such a light refreshing feel. The product is infused with hyaluronic acid and royal jelly extract making it extremely hydrating, and despite the light non-sticky feel the product does stay on your skin. It has great SPF50 protection against both UVA and UVB rays. I’ve had a closer look at the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Ingredients.
Are You Unsure if This is the Right Sunscreen for You?
If you’re thinking about buying the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence but are doing a bit more research first then you’ve come to the right place. I always check the ingredients of everything I put on my skin as well as look for the best price and other reviews. I analysed the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence ingredients to check if there was anything harmful in it. The most recent ingredients list claims to now be free from parabens although the one I ordered last year contained Methylparaben, but I believe this has been taken out now.
Overall the new product is free from allergens, gluten, sulphate, parabens and polyethylene glycol (PEG). I did however find a few ingredients that may be concerning to some people so I have highlighted them below. I personally never had a problem with the product but it does contain some ingredients which may block pores, alcohols which can dry the skin, fungal acne promoting ingredients, silicones and synthetic fragrances. See below for further details. Most importantly I had a good look at the sun blocking ingredients in the Biore Watery Essence sunscreen to check how effective they are.

Is Biore UV a Chemical Sunscreen?
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is a chemical sunscreen. I have detailed below the chemical filters it contains.
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is an old-school chemical sunscreen. I say “old-school” because there are plenty of better options out there today, however it is still considered safe. It only protects against UVB and not UVA rays so it’s important when choosing a sunscreen to pick one that contains other sun-blocking ingredients as well as Ethyhexyl Methoxycinnamate. This ingredient also looses its effectiveness over time; it loses 10% of its SPF protection within 35 minutes of applying it. For this reason it is usually combined with other sunscreens to give the product more stable, broad spectrum protection.
Ethylhexyl Triazone is a more modern chemical sunscreen which I believe is not available in the US yet due to FDA regulations. It gives the highest photo-stable absorption of all available UVB filters today.
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate is another more modern chemical sunscreen agent, again not available in the US due FDA regulations. It provides high UVA protection and high photostability.
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is one of the best sunscreen agents known today (again unfortunately not FDA-approved for the US). It’s a broad-spectrum sunscreen which covers the whole UVA and UVB range and unlike the older UV filters this one is very photostable. It hardly deteriorates at all in the presence of UV light.
Is Biore Sunscreen Broad Spectrum?
Yes! This means it will protect your skin against both UVA and UVB rays. The four sun filters mentioned above will provide powerful broad spectrum protection for your skin.
Is Biore Sunscreen Safe?
Yes! Not only does the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence give high protection against UVA and UVB rays, it also contains safe ingredients which have low toxicity and allergen risks.
Overall Verdict on the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Active Ingredients
This is a great sunscreen that provides excellent protection against UVA and UVB rays. It does not leave any white marks or sticky feel on your skin. It it also extremely hydrating and perfect for use under sunscreen. When analysing the ingredients I couldn’t find anything that could be viewed as unsafe. It is also a Japanese product. Asian sunscreens tend to be lighter and more fluid than sunscreens in the west. They also dry matte on the skin since they often have a formula containing water and alcohol which makes them light in texture with a fast drying speed.
