What’s Not in the Ingredients List

Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is free from gluten, sulphate, and polyethylene glycol (PEG). The original product used to include parabens but these have now been removed. Some ingredients lists may vary due to different regulations in different countries.

Additional ingredients found in some non UK formulas include: propylene glycol, and potassium hydroxide.

Is Biore UV a Chemical or Mineral Sunscreen?

The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is a chemical sunscreen. The chemical filters in the sunscreen are detailed below.

Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate

Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is an old-school chemical sunscreen. I say “old-school” because there are plenty of better options out there today, however it is still considered safe. It only protects against UVB and not UVA rays so it’s important when choosing a sunscreen to pick one that contains other sun-blocking ingredients as well.

This ingredient also looses its effectiveness over time; it loses 10% of its SPF protection within 35 minutes of applying it. For this reason it is usually combined with other sunscreens to give the product more stable, broad spectrum protection.

Ethylhexyl Triazone

Ethylhexyl Triazone is a more modern chemical sunscreen which I believe is not available in the US yet due to FDA regulations. It gives the highest photo-stable absorption of all available UVB filters today.

Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate

Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate is another more modern chemical sunscreen agent, again not available in the US due FDA regulations. It provides high UVA protection and high photostability.

Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine

Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is one of the best sunscreen agents known today (again unfortunately not FDA-approved for the US). It’s a broad-spectrum sunscreen which covers the whole UVA and UVB range and unlike the older UV filters this one is very photostable. It hardly deteriorates at all in the presence of UV light.

Is Biore Watery Essence a Broad Spectrum Sunscreen?

Yes! The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is a broad spectrum sunscreen. This means it will protect your skin against both UVA and UVB rays. The four sun filters mentioned above will provide powerful broad spectrum protection for your skin.

Is Biore Watery Essence Sunscreen Safe?

Yes! Not only does the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence give high protection against UVA and UVB rays, it also contains safe ingredients which have low toxicity and allergen risks.

Overall Verdict on the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Active Ingredients

The sun blocking ingredients in the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence provide excellent protection against UV damage. There is nothing that could be viewed as unsafe in the ingredients list and the product contains a number of good ingredients to improve the skin surface, and reduce dark spots and fine lines.

Asian sunscreens tend to be lighter and more fluid than sunscreens in the west. They also dry matte on the skin since they often have formulas containing water and alcohol which makes them light in texture with a fast drying speed. This makes them great products for oily or acne prone skin.

I would recommend the Biore sunscreen if you have skin that gets easily congested or oily. The texture is light and leaves you with a fresh feeling. It is the perfect daily protection for oily skin types.

The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50 is recommended for daily use.
