The main components of a lip scrub include an exfoliant and a moisturiser. The two work together to leave the skin smooth and moist, and free from dryness or flaking.

All of the recipes in this post include an exfoliating agent like salt, sugar or coffee grounds. They also all contain some type of oil or butter which forms the base of the scrub, and keeps your lips nourished.

1. Sugar, Honey and Olive Oil DIY Lip Scrub

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon organic honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon water

Benefits

Brown sugar scrubs are very gentle on the lips. This is because brown sugar is made up of small particles and is less abrasive on the skin than regular white sugar. It’s also much softer than salt or coffee grains.

This recipe would make a great homemade lip scrub for chapped, sensitive and dry skin. It contains honey which works not only as a moisturiser but also as a mild exfoliator. Honey also has both anti-bacterial and anti fungal properties so it also protects cracked lips from infection.

The added ingredient of olive oil leaves the lips soft, supple and hydrated. It’s also rich in antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins E and K which help to protect the skin from premature ageing.
