Shampoos Without DMDM Hydantoin or Formaldehyde: 17 Safe Products

Are you looking for shampoos without DMDM hydantoin? DMDM hydantoin is a preservative found in personal care products. It become controversial after a class-action lawsuit was filed against TREsemme where hair loss was claimed. If you would rather avoid the ingredient in your hair care products for the time being, I have found you seventeen great shampoos that are all free from DMDM hydantoin.

When researching the shampoos in this post I checked the ingredients list not only for DMDM hydantoin, but for any other formaldehyde releasers.

Every product I am recommending is free from the following ingredients, which all release a small amount of formaldehyde: quaternium-15, dimethyl-dimethyl (DMDM) hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 3-diol (bromopol).

3. OGX Coconut Milk Sulfate Free Shampoo

In September 2021 OGX announced that they have removed DMDM hydantoin from all of their products. One shampoo which has always been made without the use of dmdm hydantoin is the OGX Coconut Milk Sulfate Free Shampoo. This is a nourishing and hydrating shampoo that leaves the hair strengthened and smooth.

The formula contains coconut milk, coconut oil and egg white proteins and is excellent for adding moisture to dry hair. If you are worried about hair loss, the egg white proteins nourish and stimulate the hair root to growth. It leaves the hair stronger and more elastic.
