DIY Hair Masks for High Porosity Hair
What is High Porosity Hair?
Your hair porosity is your hair’s ability to absorb and retain moisture. High porosity hair absorbs moisture easily, but cannot retain it. This is because the hair cuticles are raised, and there are large holes in them.
The image below shows the difference between low porosity hair, normal hair, and high porosity hair.
- Low Porosity Hair – The hair has difficulty obtaining moisture but once moisture is absorbed it will remain moisturised.
- Normal Hair – The hair cuticles are loose which allows moisture to be easily absorbed and retained.
- High Porosity Hair – The hair easily absorbs moisture but also easily looses moisture.
What are Signs of High Porosity Hair?
High porosity hair often appears dull, tangeled frizzy and dry. There are different degrees of porosity however, so if you have medium to high porosity hair, you may find you have some of these characteristics, but not all.
How do you Fix High Porosity Hair?
High porosity hair requires ingredients that smooth down the cuticles, and help seal moisture into the seal.
Proteins, oils, and butters, all help to and seal the cuticle in very porous hair, and humectants like aloe and honey help the hair strands to retain moisture.
There are many products you can buy for high porosity hair, however you can also easily make your own nourishing hair masks at home.
