Which Shade Should You Choose?

There are a variety of shades of green dye in this post. Be aware if you don’t want to bleach your hair, the shade of green that you hair will turn will depend on your natural hair color.

If you have blonde hair you will be able to easily achieve mint or lime coloured hair. The image below shows some of the dye colours in this post. In you want a bright color try electric lizard or pastel mint. Warm shades like alpine green or tropical green will also give you vibrant results.

If you have dark hair the lighter green dyes may not show up on your natural hair color. Juniper dark forest is a popular colour for darker hair colours or black hair. It leaves your hair with a moss coloured reflection. Emerald green may also work well on brown hair to give it a slightly green tint.

Manic Panic produce some of the best green hair dyes if you want a very bright and noticeable green color. The shade Electric Lizard works well on light hair such as light blonde or dark blonde. It may not show up on dark hair.

All Manic Panic dyes are cruelty free and vegan and free from the chemical PPD (Paraphenylenediamine).

2. Manic Panic Venus Envy

The Manic Panic Venus Envy is a darker, richer colour than Electric Lizard. It’s another semi-permanent hair dye and lasts for six weeks. Although lighter hair colours see the best results with this dye, it will still show up on brown hair.

Blonde hair will be left with a rich green hue, and darker hair is left slightly tinted and more of a dark moss colour.

Tips for Colouring Your Hair

When rinsing the dye out of your hair try to use cool water. Hot water opens up the cuticles in the hair shaft and may rinse some of the pigment out of your hair. Cold water helps to keep the hair cuticles closed and keeps your colour looking fresh for longer. Also aim to use a sulphate free shampoo to help your colour last longer.

If you’ve dyed your hair before you’ll also know that hair dye can cause the hair to become brittle, dry or split. I recommend using Olaplex to keep your hair strong and healthy. I’m aware Olaplex is quite an expensive brand which is why I also recommend some less expensive Olaplex alternatives that are just as good as the real thing! You could also of course use natural ingredients to protect your hair. Applying a blend of Argan oil, coconut oil, aloe vera and olive oil to your hair before dying it helps to seal in moisture and protect the hair from damage.
