What is Hanyul?
Hanyul is a Korean skincare brand owned by the parent company Amorepacific. Amorepacific own other well known Korean skincare brands such as Etude, Laneige, Innisfree, Sulwhosoo and Mamonde.
Hanyul has fourteen different skincare lines in total including the popular Hanyul Artemisia, Hanyul Red Rice and Hanyul Moonlight Citron.
What is the Hanyul Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack?
The Hanyul Yuja Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack is a sleeping mask that helps to brighten and re-energise the skin. Its key ingredients are yuza, niacinamide, carrot root extract and vitamin E.
Yuzu fruit is a citrus fruit that’s rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C, and has been shown in studies to lighten the skin and prevent wrinkles by boosting collagen production. The fruit is popularly used in East Asian cosmetics and aromatherapy, and can be used to treat inflammation.
How to Use the Hanyul Yuja Sleeping Mask
The Hanyul Yuja Sleeping Mask is designed to be used as the last step in your skincare routine. It is used instead of a moisturiser, and left on overnight.
If you are especially tired, or if your skin is looking dull and fatigued, you should apply two layers. The appropriate amount for you to use will depend on how tired or dehydrated your skin feels.
Hanyul also make a Moonlight Citron Vita C Toner and Moonlight Citron C™serum which you can use under the sleeping pack. Out of the whole Hanyul Moonlight Citron line, the sleeping pack is the most popular product.
Review of the Hanyul Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack
Texture and Consistency
The Hanyul Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack has a gel like consistency and contains citron essential beads which absorb quickly into the skin.
The gel felt a bit like lemon curd and has an immediate cooling effect on the skin. In the photograph below you can see what the sleeping mask looks like on the back of my hand.
Scent
The sleeping mask has a strong citrus scent from the yuza peel oil. This rich fragrance helps to calm the mind at night time and help you to get a deeper rest.
Yuza essential oil is often used in aromatherapy due to its uplifting, and calming qualities. It’s the perfect oil for reducing anxiety and stress.
I found that the scent lasted until I fell asleep and helped to make me feel calm and relaxed.
Packaging
The sleeping pack comes in a yellow plastic tub, which is made from recyclable material. I found it easy to get the product out of the tub, and liked the colour and material that was used.
Results
I tested out the Hanyul Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack for over a month, using the product every night before I went to bed. Overall, I found that the sleeping mask helped to re-hydrate my skin and smooth any fine lines. I also felt that the product helped to make my skin look smoother and more even toned.
My skin is very dry and sensitive and I found that this sleeping pack helped to add moisture to my skin. It also soothed any redness and inflammation.
Pros and Cons of the Hanyul Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack
Overall I enjoyed using the Hanyul Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack and would recommend it to anyone with tired looking skin. I have listed below the pros and cons I found when testing this product.
Pros
- Reduces wrinkles
- Has a skin whitening effect
- Soothings inflammation
- Brightens the skin
- Smooths uneven skin tone
- Deeply moisturises the skin
- Rich, calming fragrance
Cons
- Contains alcohol.
Alcohol in skincare products can be both a pro and a con. On the positive side, alcohol helps to make the formula lighter, and also helps the other ingredients to absorb better into the skin. It’s also a good astringent and has antimicrobial properties which means it’s good for oily skin.
The downside however is that alcohol can be drying to the skin. This is especially the case if alcohol is listed high up in the ingredients list, as is the case with the Hanyul Moonlight Citron Sleeping Pack.
My own skin is dry and sensitive skin, and I personally didn’t find that the sleeping pack made my skin drier. I wanted to mention the alcohol content however as it may effect my readers with more sensitive skin than me.
Hanyul Yuja Sleeping Mask Ingredients
The key ingredients in this product are Yuzu, glycerin, trehalose, niacinamide, carrot root and sunflower seed oil.
The glycerin, and trehalose in the formula are both humectants which help to keep moisture in the skin.
Niacinamide (also called Vitamin B3) helps to smooth wrinkles, strengthen the skin barrier, and fade dark spots. Niacinamide is a popular ingredient in skincare products that treat acne, rosacea, and atopic dermatitis.
The star ingredient in this product is the yuzu fruit peel and oil. This helps to reduce wrinkles and lighten the skin. Over time it gives the skin a smoother and more even appearance.
