I had a look at the nail designs seen on the catwalk at London and New York Fashion Weeks this spring.
There were lots of pastels, rich jewel tones, metallic shades, animal prints and a new French manicure. I’ve been following the trends that are appearing on the runway as well as reading up on the predictions of nail industry experts on what designs will be making waves this year.
White nails with gold are looking to become very trendy this year! I’ve come up with the top ten designs which are predicted to be popular in 2021. These designs were all seen at both New York and London Fashion Weeks as well as becoming increasingly popular with nail artists around the world.
Many of them are simple enough to copy at home. Here are my top ten nail trends to watch in 2021.

1. Oranges, Pinks and Yellows
Nails with combinations of orange, pink and yellow are trendy at the moment. In February 2021 Nail Artist Miss Pop sent models down the Oscar de la Renta runway with orange and pink nails against taupes and creams outfits.
2. Metallic
Metallic nails are in right now! During London Fashion Week in February models were wearing metallic nail colours at the Julien Macdonald show. Nail artist Marian Newman also created the ultra-long, metallic nails which have also been seen on the catwalk.
3. Pastels
Pastel nails are back in trend as part of the latest 90s craze. Expect to see lots of candy-inspired colours with glossy top coats. This white grey marble manicure has a silver stripe which also goes with the latest metallic trend.
4. Double Tipped French Manicure
The French manicure is going to be big in 2021 but it’s coming back into fashion with a twist. Now there’s the double-tipped version! It was first seen at New York Fashion Week at the Kith’s show in February 2021. The image below shows the double-tipped French manicure with currently popular pastel colours.
5. Animal Prints
Animal prints are going to continue to be fashionable throughout 2021. At this spring’s New York Fashion Week models were seen wearing animal print nails at the Jeremy Scott show, similar to the picture below. These were also designed by Nail Artist Miss Pop.
6. Blue Tones
Electric blue varnish shades were seen on the Mark Fast catwalk at London Fashion Week in February 2021. The image below shows nails with different hues of cobalt and navy along with clustered stones on two of the nails.
7. Matte
Celebrity Nail Stylist Gina Edwards created matte nail designs for the Rebecca Minkoff runway in New York this year. The image below shows a darker matte nail varnish with diamonds at the cuticles.
8. Barely There / Minimalist
Well-groomed nails with varnish that’s barely there was one of the nail designs seen on the catwalk this year in both London and New York. At the Elie Saab and Emporio Armani runways the models wore only a glossy top coat to add a healthy sheen. Some of the models had a subtle embellishment of a tiny diamond.
9. Geometric Shapes & Negative Space
Mabelyn Martin, owner of New York’s famous nail salon Paintbox created the negative-space manicures at the Ulla Johnson show this year. Negative space designs is where only part of the nail is painted. These nail styles often have geometric shapes. Negative space manicures never go out of style but 2021 will be seeing these designs becoming more popular. In the image below you can see on two of the nails on each hand part of the nail is left bare.
10. Maximalist Accents
Over-the-top jewels and glitter nail polishes were seen on the catwalks this spring. Statement making trends are popular right now such as the gold nail below with all other nails covered in gems.
Finally, another trend which is emerging is white nails with gold! Amazon has a beautiful selection of white and gold nail embellishments to try!
